Is Counseling Good for Addiction?
When a person asks for help with some issue in his/her life, a safe answer is to suggest counseling. Trouble with your marriage? Get counseling. Kids acting up? Send them for counseling. Have a flight get cancelled? Try some counseling! There seems to be this assumption that any counseling is good counseling? But why would that be? What if we take the word counseling and change it to a different word with the same... (posted by Jeffrey 2 years 339 days ago.)

Psychiatry Part II Oral Board Preparation: Performance and More
Board Certification in a medical specialty is in essence the 'stamp of approval' of a doctor's competence to practice medicine. In most states a doctor can practice medicine without completing a full residency, but such work is limited to urgent care centers or other clinics where there is no need to declare a specialty. In order to call one's self a psychiatrist, a medical school graduate... (posted by Jeffrey 2 years 357 days ago.)

Is Suboxone At Odds With Traditional Recovery? Part three.
Part Three: The combination of Suboxone with traditional recovery. The appropriate relationship between suboxone treatment and traditional recovery becomes clear once one understands the relationship between opiate obsession and character defects. Should people taking suboxone attend NA or AA? Yes, if they want to. A 12-step program has much to offer an addict, or anyone for that matter. But I... (posted by Jeffrey 4 years 5 days ago.)

Does Suboxone Interfere With Recovery? Part Two.
Part Two: Character defects result from drug obsession. Suboxone has given us a new paradigm for treatment which I refer to as the 'remission model'. This model takes into account that addiction is a dynamic process far more dynamic than previously assumed. To explain, the traditional view from recovery circles is that the addict has a number of character defects that were either present before the... (posted by Jeffrey 4 years 8 days ago.)

Is Suboxone At Odds With Traditional Recovery? Part One.
By now almost every opiate addict has heard of suboxone, the amazing medication for opiate dependence that has taken the using world by storm. I will admit to mixed feelings about suboxone based on what I have seen and heard while treating well over 100 patients over the past two years. I also acknowledge that my opinions are likely influenced by my own experiences as an addict in traditional... (posted by Jeffrey 4 years 8 days ago.)

Suboxone, a new treatment paradigm: Part One
Suboxone is a relatively new medication for opiate dependence that will result in a sea change in addiction treatment. Physicians currently prescribing suboxone are aware of the usefulness of this medication, and news of the medication has reached the street to such an extent that opiate addicts often call addictionologists and ask for the drug by name. Word of mouth is spreading the news about suboxone... (posted by Jeffrey 4 years 161 days ago.)
